When I contacted Tech Support, I was told that there will be a $140.00 repair charge plus postage. Then, I would have to wait anywhere from at least 6 to 8 weeks before I could play my games again! That is just stupid!

I needed to figure out how to save my XBox from the Red Ring of Death and in $50 or less!

There wasn’t a snowballs chance of Microsoft getting even more money out of me to fix a problem that was their fault in the first place! I was just as likely to sit on my ass for two months waiting for them as well!

Yeah, 2 MONTHS! No, I have much better things to spend my time ond my money on then waiting around for this kind of BS!

First, I went through every other trick in the book, the same ones you used I’m sure:

Letting your console cool down by turning it off – Nothing

Unplug everything and then reconnect all plugs and cables – Nothing

Disassemble and clean out any lint with compressed air – Nothing

Take out the Harddrive - Why?

I even tried the towel bit. Want to guess what happened? – Nothing

The next step was to find out what even causes the famed (or cursed rather) Red Ring of Death! Time to do some homework…

Inside your XBox 360, is the motherboard. Yes, that big green board with a bunch of stuff on it. On the motherboard there are the GPU and CPU chips. If the motherboard overheats, will start to flex which then breaks the solder connections and lose contact with the GPU and CPU…This is a result of excessive heat. Typically from either keeping your 360 inside an entertainment unit or just by playing on your console for countless hours in a row. Once the solder connections break, your XBox becomes a giant friggin paperweight with pretty red lights…

I wasted countless hours of my life that I will NEVER get back, pouring over all of the easy answers and quick fixes. All of my homework resulted in the same BS answers that don’t work:

• Wrapping the console in a towel. May as well just wrap it up in a towel and smash it with a sledge hammer…
• Things that were what I can only assume meant to resemble a how to guide. I think they were written by a 3 year old on toilet paper.

I was getting absolutely nowhere and fast. The sledge hammer was starting to sound good!

A bunch of my friends had been dealing with the same problem. Then when I pretty much gave up until I got a phone call from my buddies inviting me join them in a game. I reminded him of my deadbox 360 fate.

Its pretty safe to say that you may just as well hold onto your ankles if you want to wait for Mr. Softy to come to your rescue… After all, they are still making $140 a pop to sit on their ass for weeks at a time with our systems. I just wanted to get back to my games and life the way it was before I was cursed with the Red RoD crap.
